May 7 at Studio One. Lincoln RI, Dance Alliance will present Melissa Ray, this year’s recipient of the Deb Nash Memorial Scholarship to Melissa Ray. Melissa Ray began her training at age three in her hometown of Coventry, RI at. After a couple years at the small studio she was ready to try bigger things and decided to switch to Atwood Performing Arts which was a competitive dance studio. Competition opened many doors for Miss Ray, and gave her the opportunity to dance at many dance studios throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts such as Dancing Spirit Performing Arts. The connections she has made by dancing with many teachers has helped her to grow as a dancer and a person. She has attended college preparatory summer programs at colleges throughout the country including Marymount Manhattan and the University of the Arts. This prep in dance has also led Miss Ray to graduate from HS a year early. She also attends J,M. Walsh Arts High School in Pawtucket. The Scholarship will be awarded on May 7th at the Dance Alliance Meeting. She will attend The Heritage Ballet school. This fall Miss Ray will be attending Boston Conservatory, where she will pursue a B.F.A. in contemporary dance.
This will be followed by the announcement of the elections of new members to the Board of Dance Alliance.
Featured on May 7th at 3:30 pm Brian Jones will recreate his TAP RESEARCH project “Tap from the Movies” with visuals and notes and instruction. Fee for the intensive is $10 for Dance Alliance members, $20 for non-members and $10 for students. If any studio is sending 4 or more students there will be a fee adjustment.
